“Why do people believe good works save them from their sins?”
I only wish they did - the world would be a much better place
In broad terms the Protestant church believes that sitting on soft cushions in warm rooms reading the bible will save them from their sins
and the Roman Catholic church believes that confessing to a priest will save them from their sins
.
.
The relevant bible verse is :-
Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
.
.
Loving thy neighbour as thyself is a call to good works.
It is a supreme, over-riding commandment.
There are no other verses or combination of verses in the bible that Christian Pharisees can use to weasel their way around its authority or clear instruction
.
.
But of course they do.
They construct the laughable charade that ‘loving your neighbour’ means evangelizing him. They sit on their ample asses beside bursting cupboards reading a book, and at social occasions drone on and on about what they read in that book, and that’s their Christianity done.
.
.
Jesus ministry moved forward on a life of continual sacrifice
His direct disciples lived lives of sacrifice and suffering
No one is going to Heaven unless they template daily sacrifice into their lives
and only then if it alleviates the suffering of others
.
.
Reading a book is not a sacrifice
Telling others what you read in that book is not suffering
and confession without repentance & restitution to those you’ve wronged is a complete waste of time
.
.
‘Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself’ is Creation Law
It is the law that allows God to serve you with a desperate and disappointing life day after day after day
It is not optional
You do it or you suffer
.
.
God The Father exists outside of matter, energy, space and time in eternity
He also exists in your soul. You know him as your conscience
In that position he is directly responsible for everything good and bad that happens in your life
.
.
When you have developed a relationship with your conscience to a level that you do what it tells you even when you don’t want to, your life will slowly start to go right again, and you will be directed towards your life purpose
