Around the inside of the globe, like a deep, thick shell, is the empires of the Living Dark
These empires are so vast that if your universe fell into any part of them it would be gone forever
You would never find it again. The Empires are too vast for you to do so

The purpose of the Empires Of The Dark is to consume all life
They have no other reason for existence

Now what do you think would be the one thing that would stop them in their tracks?
What would be the one thing that would halt their incursions, whip their ass and send them back?

A form of life that opposes The Dark measure for measure, which can be defeated, but always comes back again and again and again
because no matter what you do to it you cannot kill it
That form of life is the eternal warrior

Humanity is not a single spiritual life form.
Humanity comprises a number of completely different spiritual castes
the most different of which is the warrior caste
Warriors are not a structural part of The Creation
They form part of an over-layer
When they die they do not die. They simply return to the over-layer and then come back again.
It drives the Living Darkness bonkers.

So the Upper Hell is also used as a spiritual tempering ground for human spirits who are not of the warrior caste but who would benefit by association with it
